PELMO stands for Proof of English Language Mastery Online. It is an online test that people can access from anywhere in the world as long as they have a secure internet connection. It is an international test for people who need to provide proof of their English language proficiency for admission into secondary or post-secondary programs, or for employment at a company.

PELMO is very different from other tests. There are three reasons. First, you can do the PELMO from your home with a secure internet connection, anytime, 24/7. Second, PELMO was created to be a stress-free English assessment and this is achieved by having more relaxed time constraints during the test and by offering test-takers choice regarding which questions they want to answer. Third, 100% accuracy in scoring is guaranteed.

You will receive your PELMO results within 48 hours of submitting the test.

You can take the PELMO as often as you want, but you must wait two weeks between test-taking sessions.

Post-secondary institutions will receive the test scores via email directly from PELMO-INTL Inc. Please do not send the scores yourself as they will not be considered valid.

As each post-secondary institution and program is different, you must check with your institution to find out what score you need on the PELMO.

The PELMO is scored out of 100 total percent, with a weighting of 50% for each of the two sections. Participants will receive a score for Section I, Speaking and Listening, and a score for Section II, Reading and Writing. The average of these two scores will make up the total PELMO score.

A secure test environment is required in order to receive your test results. If another person enters the room while you are doing the test, your test results will not be valid. Your cell phone should not be in the test room with you. If it is, your test results may not be valid.

The test begins by you showing the camera your identification (picture page of your passport) and then by using your computer camera to show the entire room to the proctor. You may have blank paper and a pen or pencil with you. No cell phones, books or notebooks are permitted. When this process is completed, you will begin the test by taking five deep breaths to help relax your body and mind. Then, you will begin the test.

Yes. You should do three things. First, make sure your internet connection is secure, and that your microphone and camera are on and in good working order. Second, choose a room where you will be comfortable taking the test and make sure you will not be interrupted during the test. Third, you should have your passport ready as you will need it to provide identification before beginning the test.
